Music returns to the Crystal Palace Bowl this August - our guide to who's on when
It'd be fair to say that I know this part of London well. When my father was a boy he saw the Crystal Palace itself burn down from his home in Herne Hill, that was in 1936 and he was 8 years old at the time. Now 93, he still remembers it well. My memories are more of visiting the park to see the Victorian dinosaur sculptures, the children's zoo/farm, and the adjacent sports centre where it wasn't uncommon to bump into Daley Thompson. But I missed seeing Bob Marley play at the bowl in June 1980, many of my friends went and it's always been a bit of a regret that I didn't.
This year there's going to be a chance to rectify missing some great artists playing in this beautiful open-air amphitheatre. South Facing Festival is a brand new open air concert series taking over Crystal Palace Park this summer, featuring 12 headline music performances and a host of free midweek events for the whole community. It's certainly an eclectic line-up with acts ranging from opera, rock, post punk, rap, to soul. Truly there's something for nearly every taste. We've really missed live music and festivals, so this is going to fill a much needed gap without the need to dig out a tent and sleeping bag!
