⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The best magic show in Edinburgh by a Royal Mile (says Simon, an ex Magic Circle member himself)

Man in black poses against a beige wall, one leg up, holding a red yarn ball; moody fashion portrait.

Ben Hart is a talented magician, likable with just the right amount of cheeky. (Britain's Got Talent and Killer Magic). He is known for his theatrical and creative approach to magic.

His new show at the wonderfully mirrored tent of Palais du Variété staged in the round is a truly magical experience and a highlight of this year's Fringe.

The show is about the choices we all make. On the round stage is a box with many red threads coming out at different angles. Ben takes us through clever predictions and stunning revelations with these red threads as well as clocks, cards, books, and mirrors.

One highlight that drew gasps was where 2,500 keys were dumped and mixed in to a housekey provided by a member of the audience. “Fate” and his choices meant a happy outcome.

We were also treated to some shadow play, using his hands to create people and animals on the wall via lamplight. This is an ancient traditional art that used to be allied to magic, and it was refreshing to see this skill presented to a rapt audience.

There were new takes on some classics of magic like catching a chosen card on a sword or predictions spookily rising from glasses as well as many original and novel magic that I have not seen before.

The final labyrinth ending brought everything together in a jaw dropping fashion.

This atmospheric magic show should be witnessed live amongst an audience.

I can't recommend it more.
