Keeping it together - I nearly lost it!
Ian Stone the comedian has been performing his one-man stand-up comedy show since the Edinburgh Fringe last August. On a cold November night, I was delighted to catch him performing an extended version at the world-famous London Comedy Store.
As he entered the stage, we all knew immediately knew we were in safe hands. I'm the same age as Ian (61) and related to many of his topics, ideas and views. He is an experienced, well-crafted, skilled comedian that walks the tightrope of often perilous topics, Nazis, religion, war in Gaza and politics with deft, humour and a warming glint in his eyes.
Ian really comes to life when talking about his unique personal experiences which are often gut bustlingly funny. These include Jewishness, the Arsenal, going clubbing in his 60s as well as and personal tragedy and a personal highlight of his dads very loud porn addiction.
Occasionally Ian veers into more general comic observations that have been well walked by many other comedians eg: health and safety, social media and parking but even then, has his own unique, well-paced and relatable takes including a very funny joke about FOMO.
I have previously seen him on TV panel shows but this is the first time I have experienced Ian live. I came away thinking that Ian is a really underrated comedian. Ian does not take the easier grumpy old man route, and his polished comedy is all the better for it.
This is a highly recommended show that I guarantee will warm your cockles and leave you smiling for the rest of the evening.
